Prévu pour le 5 octobre 2013, les PosT PANiC prennent d’assaut le DGBD d’Hongdae pour un concert des plus prometteur !
Pour l’occasion, nous avons eu la chance de rencontrer le groupe de digital punk actif depuis 2013 afin de réaliser cette interview/biographie !

Planned for the october 5th, PosT PANiC are going to storm the DGBD’s scene in Hongdae for an amazing showcase !
For this occasion, we were given the chance to meet the digital punk band, active since 2013 and make this interview/biography!

Their original name was ’The United93’ (taken from the American movie of the same name), until the band chose to take a new path in their career in forming a new band with their new name and deciding to sign with SoundHolic Entertainment.
The group was created by Andy En (Vocals, Guitar), Ken (Guitar, Vocals) and PJ (Bass), and they were soon joined by their neighbor, J (Drums) and BLAu (Synthesizer).
“We all begun music at the same time and we came from the same town. People around us didn’t seem to understand each other. That is why we decided to form a band in July 2010. We wanted to create music that would please us as well as the public. Originally Ken, PJ and I were all playing guitar… PJ sacrificed himself by agreeing to play the bass (laughs)” -Andy
Quickly, they are appearing on TV shows (EBS space…) as well as festivals (Pentaport Rock Festivals and Busan Festival in 2010, Let’s rock Festival in 2011) and won the Live Music Contest in September 2011.
At that time J decided to quit the band to do his military service and to take another path. They were then helped by 일호 for one year before the arrival of SangKyun (Mass, 김상균), the current drummer.
“He contacted us through the Internet after watching our performance on TOP BAND. He suggested that BLAu (who was one of his friends) join the group” -Andy
“He is bringing light (laughs) and wisdom” -PJ
“I was wild, which is good on stage but not as good during recording sessions. SangKyun brings us his expertise, as he was in many bands before.” -Andy
They were then recognized as the “Best Rookie of the Month” by Olleh Music Awards (January 26th, 2012), participated in Countdown Fantasy Festival and also at the GreenPlugged Festival (2012). The same year they signed with SoundHolic Ent. (Monni, WHOWho, GlenCheck…).
“We were contacted by some agencies. All were promising us glory. All but one - SoundHolic Ent. They told us there was no easy way to achieve success and that we would have to work hard. They talked about reality. That is why we chose them.” -Andy
They then challenged themselves and decided to start with a new band, “PosT PANiC”, on November 1st, 2012. “PosT” signifying the change, to show they are producing a punk sound different from others by adding digital music.
“We had two choices, we could only change the name of the band or we could start with a new band. Our music was powerful on stage and the fans appreciated that, but we couldn’t do the same on CDs. We then decided to produce a sound more accessible, not only with a new name, but also as a new band.” -Andy
Their music, driven by the bass, and by the characteristics of punk rock is then mixed to sound more digital than before, using DJ’s and Fx’s parts differently than other bands. Mixing digital sound into punk rock is what they are calling ‘Digital Punk‘. Their first album, “Outer Space”, was then released on April 23rd, 2013.
“I am watching a lot of documentaries on channels like “National Republic” and “Discovery”. The name, “Outer Space”, came from one of them. There was a documentary about work in space with the sentence “3, 2, 1, Ignition”, that impacted me (laughs).” -Andy
“We produced the songs of the album quickly. At this time we were listening to a lot of Electro bands and we went to watch a lot of concerts, because we wanted to do something different from them. We also wanted to stay really Rock.” -Andy
Their number one song:
Ken: “Dance on the razor and Sky’s on fire”. “It is because he made them (laughs)” -Andy,
“Yes, but also because they are fitting our sound”
SangKyun: “Sky’s on fire. Active, my favorite music style… I’m done (laughs) "
PJ: “1, 2, 3 alive. It is a beautiful song. "
Andy: “1, 2, 3 alive. I did this song, I produced it and we spent a lot of time on it… a few months. This song is really bright with oriental inspirations. We even hesitated to take it as our first single! "
Since BLAu left, the band has had to make some changes. So Andy and PJ began to play synthesizer and Fx as well as their own intruments. To overcome some difficulties, SeongSu (황성수), from the band “We are the Night”, is still helping them when they play live.
“We tried to find a new member... but for now we didn’t find anyone as good as him. He is really good and efficient on stage.” -Andy
They are hoping to play abroad in the future. “American Tour!” (Ken). And their participation at Red Bull Live on The Road 2013 (where they were victorious in the 3rd stage of the auditions on June 29th) was a first step toward this dream. They are also considering doing their first concert in Japan.

“A lot of Korean Bands should tour” -Ken
“It is difficult to have opportunities… first money (laughs)” -Andy
“France is actually more open to Electro Music and HipHop. I know Hocus Pocus!” -SeongSu
“We would like to bring “The Panic” in Korean Rock. Show to the public that we are different from others. And evolve our sound little by little.” -Andy
They are planning to make a new EP for PosT PANiC around the end of the year or in the first part of 2014, as well as another album for “The United 93”.
Do you have a message for Moksori’s readers?
SangKyun: " Our music, how is it? I want to know what you think! "
Ken: " I want to go to the Louvre, I like France and I would like French people to want us! "
PJ: " Buy our CD’s on iTunes! (laughs)"
Andy: " I always wanted to play abroad. "
SeongSu: " Say “Hi!” to DaftPunk. Thanks for your music. "
Ken: " I want to drink French beer! (laughs). "
Tout d’abord connus sous le nom « The United93 » (tiré du film américain du même nom), le groupe a choisi de prendre un tournant dans leur carrière en formant un nouveau groupe et en signant avec le label Soundholic Entertainment.
Originellement formés par Andy EN (chant, guitare), Ken (guitare, chant) et de PJ (basse), le groupe fut vite rejoint par l’un de leurs voisins J (batterie) ainsi que de BLAu (DJ, FX).
« Nous avons tous commencé la musique en même temps et nous venions de la même ville. Les personnes qui nous entouraient semblaient ne pas se comprendre entre elles. C’est pourquoi nous avons décidé de former un groupe [Juillet 2010]. Nous voulions faire de la musique qui pouvait non seulement nous plaire, mais plaire aussi au public. A l’origine, Ken, PJ et moi jouions de la guitare… PJ s’est sacrifié pour jouer de la basse (rires) » -Andy
Très vite, ils enchaînent les émissions TV (EBS space…) ainsi que les festivals (Pentaport Rock Festival et Busan Festival en 2010, Let’s rock Festival en 2011) et gagnent le « Live Music Contest » en septembre 2011.
C’est alors que J décide de quitter le groupe, afin de pouvoir faire son service militaire et de prendre un nouveau départ. Ils seront alors aidés par 일호 durant une année avant de voir l＇arrivée de SangKyun (Mass, 김상균).
« Il nous a contactés sur internet, après avoir vu notre performance sur TOP BAND. Il a proposé à BLAu (qui était l’un de ses amis) de rejoindre le groupe. » -Andy
« Il apporte de la lumière (rires) et de la sagesse » -PJ
« J'étais sauvage, ce qui était une bonne chose en concert, mais pas en enregistrement studio. SangKyun quant à lui apporte son expérience car il a déjà fait partie de plusieurs groupes. » -Andy
Ils sont alors reconnus « Best Rookie of the month » par Olleh Music Awards (26 janvier 2012), participent au Countdown Fantasy festival ainsi qu’au GreenPlugged festival (2012) et signent avec Soundholic Ent. (Gogoboys, WHOwho, GlenCheck…).
«Nous avons été contactés par plusieurs agences. Toutes nous promettaient la gloire. Toutes sauf SoundHolic Ent. Ils nous ont dit qu’il n’y avait pas de chemin facile pour accéder au succès et qu’il faudrait travailler dur. Ils nous ont parlé de la réalité du marché. C’est pourquoi nous les avons choisis.» -Andy
Ils se remettent alors en question et décident de débuter un nouveau groupe, les PosT PANiC, le 1er novembre 2012. « PosT » signifiant le changement, afin de montrer qu’ils produisent un son punk différent des autres groupes, en y ajoutant du son numérique.
« Nous avions deux choix, soit nous changions simplement de nom ou soit nous débutions un nouveau groupe. Notre son était puissant sur scène et le public l’appréciait, mais nous n’arrivions pas à rendre la même émotion sur CD. Nous avons alors décidé de faire une musique plus accessible, non seulement sous un nouveau nom, mais aussi en tant que nouveau groupe. » -Andy
Leur musique, toujours menée par la basse et par les caractéristiques du punk rock est désormais mixée à des sons plus numériques qu’auparavant, utilisant les parties DJ et FX différemment des autres groupes. Mixer des sons digitaux dans le punk, c’est-ce qu’ils appellent le « Digital Punk ».
Ils sortent alors leur premier album « outer space » le 23 avril 2013.
« Je regarde beaucoup de documentaires des chaînes « National Republic » et « Discovery ». Le nom « Outer Space » vient de l’un d’eux. Il y avait un reportage sur le travail dans l’espace avec la phrase « 3,2,1, ignition »… ça m’a marqué (rires) » -Andy
« Nous avons produit les musiques de l’album assez rapidement. A cette période nous écoutions beaucoup de groupes électro et nous allions voir beaucoup de concerts car nous voulions faire quelque chose de différent d’eux. Nous voulions aussi rester très rock. » -Andy
Quant à leurs musiques préférées de l’album :
Ken : « Dance on the razor , Sky’s on Fire ».
« C’est parce qu’il les a produites (rires) » -Andy
« Oui, mais aussi parce qu’elles correspondent le plus à notre son »
Sang Yun : « Sky’s on Fire. Active, mon style de musique préféré… Voilà (rires) »
PJ : « 1, 2, 3, alive. C’est une belle chanson. »
Andy : « 1, 2, 3, alive . J’ai fait cette musique, je l’ai produite et on a passé beaucoup de temps dessus.. quelques mois. Elle est très lumineuse avec des inspirations orientales. Nous avons même hésité à en faire notre premier single ! »
Depuis le départ de BLAu, le groupe a subi quelques changements. Ainsi Andy et PJ commencèrent à jouer au clavier et aux FX en plus de leurs instruments d’origine. Pour palier à certaines difficultés, SeongSu (황성수) des « WE ARE THE NIGHT » les aide durant les concerts.
« Nous avons essayé de trouver quelqu’un d’autre... Mais pour le moment il n’y a pas mieux que SeongSu, il est très bon et efficace en concert ! » -Andy
L’avenir, ils l’envisagent à l’étranger « American Tour! » (Ken) et leur participation au Redbull Live On the Road 2013 (dont ils sont sortis gagnants de la 3ème étape le 29 juin 2013) en est un premier pas. Ils prévoient par ailleurs un premier concert au Japon.
« Ceux qui font des tournées à l’étranger sont populaires.. » -SeongSu
« Beaucoup de groupes coréen devraient aller faire des tournées. » -Ken
« C’est difficile d’avoir cette opportunité.. d’abord, l’argent (rires) » -Andy
« La France est actuellement plus tournée vers l’électro et le hip-hop. Je connais Hocus Pocus ! » -SeongSu
« Nous aimerions amener « The Panic » dans le rock coréen. Montrer au public que nous sommes différents des autres. Et faire évoluer notre son petit à petit. » -Andy
Ils espèrent sortir un nouveau mini-album pour PosT PANiC d’ici à la fin de l’année 2013/début 2014 ainsi qu’un autre pour The United93.

Ken : " Je veux aller au Louvre, j’aime la France et j’aimerais que les Français veuillent de nous ! "

Andy : " J’ai toujours voulu jouer à l’étranger. "

Ken : " Je veux goûter la bière française ! (rires) "
